Inclusion Lead and SENDCo – Mr P Mason
At Lowerplace, inclusivity is at the core of our values. We take pride in our commitment to creating an environment where every student's needs are met.
At Lowerplace Primary School, we take pride in our commitment to creating an environment where every student's needs are met. Our dedicated staff strives to eliminate any obstacles hindering the progress of our children, ensuring they reach their full potential. We aim for a holistic approach and recognise the importance of not only supporting children’s academic progress but also developing their behavioural, emotional and social skills to enable them to become confident, independent learners.
Our staff are well-informed about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), receiving comprehensive on-going training to address the diverse needs of our students. We promptly identify those facing challenges in in making progress and implement targeted interventions to provide the necessary supports. While most of our support occurs within the classroom through Quality First Teaching and employing a differentiated curriculum that adapts teaching styles, resources, and tasks to meet the unique needs of each student, there are times when children may need to access targeted support outside of the classroom when necessary. Recognizing that some students may have additional needs, such as learning difficulties, exceptional abilities, physical disabilities, or emotional/behavioural challenges, we provide extra support to ensure they can fully reach their potential.
We ensure that parents are fully aware of the SEND process and are kept informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year. We work alongside external agencies such as specialist teachers (through Rochdale’s Additional Needs Service – RANS), Educational Psychologists, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.
The Lowerplace Inclusion Team
At Lowerplace Primary, we strive to meet the needs of children in all areas of their academic and practical learning, as well as their emotional wellbeing. In order to meet these needs, we have an Inclusion Team who support and lead on different areas to ensure all of our children are achieving their personal best.

How we identify special educational needs and disability
When pupils have identified SEN&D before they start at Lowerplace Primary School, we will work with the people who already know them and use the information they give us to help give your child the best possible support.
At Lowerplace, we work hard to accurately determine needs and devising strategies to overcome any learning barriers. we prioritise close collaboration with the pupil and their family. Where there is a concern, the class teacher will raise this with parents/carers and discuss the needs and where necessary a referral to the Inclusion Team will be made with parental consent. The Inclusion Team will then triage and put support in place which follows a graduated response using Assess-Plan-Review-Do cycles. This open communication between parents/carers and school staff plays an indispensable role in ensuring that all pupils achieve the highest possible progress and thrive in their educational journey.
If you think your child has special educational needs we will discuss this with you and explore it further. We will share with you what we find out and work together to help support your child.
Should your child require substantial support within the school environment, we will implement a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) or a Personalised Behavioural Plan (PBP) if the needs are SEMH related. These tools help to identify concise targets to facilitate your child's progress. In cases involving external agencies, we will consider their advice, ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative approach to supporting your child's educational journey. Where needed, we may apply for a Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) with parental/carer consent.
